What can you tell me about the acai berry?

Question by M G: What can you tell me about the acai berry?
I have been hearing that the acai berry is supposed to aid in weight loss. What type of results should one expect to see from the use of it? What is it? Is it a safe method to use? Are these any side effects? Where can you buy it? at a local grocery/ health food store?

  3. It's just an ordinary berry. It works the same as any other berry. All of the buzz about it being special is just people trying to make money and rip you off.

Quoted from wikipedia regarding all of it's claimed unique benefits:

"As of March 2009, there are no controlled studies backing up any of these claims. According to ABC News correspondent Susan Donaldson, these products have not been evaluated (in the United States) by the FDA, and their efficacy is questionable.[3] In late 2008, lawyers for The Oprah Winfrey Show began investigating alleged statements from supplement manufacturers who suggested that frequent Oprah guest Dr. Mehmet Oz had recommended their product or açai in general for weight loss.[4]"

It is also stated on wikipedia that it's antioxidant levels are actually lower than that of acerola, mango, strawberry, and grapes.

So don't go the extra mile to get a hold of the stuff, it's nothing special.

(just to let you know, the guy with the lengthy response works for the acai berry website, he posts it everywhere. a lot of the info he is posting is not true, like it having 10 times the antioxidants as grapes)

  4. I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising...

This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.

However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It's so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I've found a great addition to help any one out, it's a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don't get all crazy on me and say diet pills don't work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn't meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It's an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace.com along with getting some good info. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it's the best pill I've tried and I've tried cupboards full. Now this doesn't mean you have to follow my foot steps but I've successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.

Well good luck and remember what I said, Dedicate.

  5. I have been reading up on the acai berry myself. The acai berry's natural combination of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, phytosterols, and amino acids work together to assit your body and make it function better. Your body will process food more easily and burn fat more efficiently.
The acai berry has around twenty times the antioxidants of red grapes. It is a wonderful protein, and has a large amount of dietary fiber. The fats contained in the acai berry are healthy omega fats.
The acai berry is loaded with amino acids, which muscles need to function properly and benefit from exercise. These amino acids combined with fatty acids allow the body to burn fat more effectively and help tone your muscles.

I have found the following informational site very informative - http://www.acai-health-diet.com.
